How threading works
In threading a cotton thread is twisted tightly and then moved in a rhythmic motion along the skin. The thread catches the hairs and pulls them from the follicle in one smooth movement. Because several hairs are removed at once it is relatively fast. At the same time the technique is very precise: the therapist can determine to the millimetre which hairs are removed. This makes threading particularly well suited for shaping brows, but also for hair removal on the upper lip, chin, cheeks and sideburns. For brow mapping we combine threading with plotting the ideal brow shape based on the proportions of your face, so the result is symmetrical and suits your features.
Results: what to expect
Directly after the treatment the hairs are removed and the skin around the brows or the treated area is sharply defined. Slight redness may occur, which fades within an hour for most people. The skin feels smooth without the irritation that wax can sometimes cause. Results last on average two to four weeks depending on how quickly your own hair grows. The brows then have a clean, groomed shape. Clients who come in regularly find that each appointment gets faster because we already know the base shape and only need to tidy it up.
Aftercare after threading
After threading the skin is lightly opened at the follicle points. To prevent irritation the following applies for the first twenty-four hours: touch the treated area as little as possible, avoid make-up on the skin around the brows or treated zones, and avoid direct sunlight, swimming pools and saunas. If you use a facial cleanser or toner with alcohol or acids daily, skip the treated area on the first day. If you experience a slight stinging sensation right after the appointment you can apply a small amount of aloe gel to soothe it. Most clients feel nothing and continue their day straight away.
Who is threading suitable for
Threading suits almost everyone. The technique is a good choice if your skin reacts badly to wax, if you use retinoid creams or other exfoliants that make waxing difficult, or if you simply prefer a method without chemicals. Does threading hurt?
Threading can take a little getting used to if it is your first time. Most people describe it as a light pulling sensation, similar to epilating. After a few treatments the skin adjusts and the sensation decreases. Because no heat or chemicals are involved, threading is generally better tolerated than waxing, even for people with sensitive skin.
How long do the results last?
On average two to four weeks, depending on how quickly your hair grows. Brow hair growth rate differs for everyone. Regular clients find each appointment gets faster because the base shape is already established.
Is threading suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes. Threading is in fact one of the better options for sensitive skin. No wax, adhesive, heat or chemicals are applied to the skin, only a cotton thread.
